Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) is one of the 12 certified public universities in Switzerland and member of swissuniversities. It comprises of five faculties and is active in several study and research areas: architecture, communication sciences, computational science, data science, economics, health studies, humanities, informatics, law, medicine and biomedicine.

USI is a young and lively university, a hub of opportunity open to the world where students are offered a quality interdisciplinary education in which they can be fully engaged and take center stage.

Around 3000 students and about 800 professors and researchers, hailing from over 100 countries, convene every day on the three campuses in Lugano, Mendrisio and Bellinzona. The relatively small size of the campuses encourages the free flow and open exchange of ideas within the academic community.

Established in 1996, USI is in constant evolution, always taking on new challenges while remaining true to its three guiding principles: quality, openness and responsibility.

The Faculty of Economics of USI conducts research of high international standing in the areas of finance, economics, management and law. Recent articles of faculty researchers published in top journals addressed topics such as financial economics and econometrics, public economics, aging & health, organization theory, entrepreneurship and strategy. The educational offer at the faculty is structured in a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, eight Master programs in the areas of Finance, Economics and Management, and several doctoral schools.

USI is one of the partner universities of the Swiss Finance Institute (SFI). SFI has been created in 2006 as a common initiative of the Swiss finance industry, leading Swiss universities, and the Swiss Confederation. It strives for excellence in research and doctoral training, knowledge transfer, and continuing education in the fields of banking and finance. The research and teaching activities of the Institute of Finance at USI are coordinated with SFI.
